Are you all ears? This is what we've got lined up for you in this blog post
4 Easy Camping Meals to Pull out of the Bag (Quite Literally)
Camping is holiday time. So what are you waiting for - kick back and relax! But can you? Yes, there is no vacuuming, no clothes to wash and no parent taxi service needed.
But there is still the washing up.
Sometimes a mountain of it, and let's be honest, we could do without it!
Whether we like it or not, we spend 90 minutes to 3 hours a week washing up the dishes, and at a campsite, it will only increase!!
Now, don't you worry - we've totally got you.
We know a few magical camping meals that only require a little washing up. In fact, we have two that don't even need plates!
Now that's our kind of camping.
And a BBQ is not on the list! We all know a burger in a bun is the ultimate in washing-up-free camping meals. Seriously though, we haven't put it on the list because it's the Great British go-to. Have you seen the electric woodfired NINJAs? They are the new BBQ, so many guests now bring them on-site. Sorry guys, I'm just growing your packing list!
We all know how to BBQ under an umbrella in style <<cool emoji >>.
But as tasty as a BBQ is, you might not want to eat it four times over.
So we've put together a list of one pot & plate free meals that pack a punch in flavour and novelty factor.
Here is your NEW go-to blog post for EASY camping meal ideas. One-pot-stop and food dishes that double as plates - whoop!
You can enjoy this plate-free. At the end of a blow-you-away delicious meal, your washing up is the frying pan you cooked up a storm in.
Parents on my wavelength will LOVE this one.
So, listen up guys, here's what you do:
Buy rolls with a crust and cook up a stew; bring it in a slow cooker or slow cook it here. Then you get the kids to "make" their bowls. Obvs, there is huge excitement when they have to peel out the inside of the bread roll to make a bowl!
And then, with everyone on a high - ladle a partly cooled campfire stew inside the bread. It is game-changing. Trust me.
And only the pot and a few spoons to wash!
This one is no pots, but plates are needed. Foil up your jackets and cook them in your campfire; there is a technique to this - don't just lob them in the flames! Open up a tin of beans and pop the tin into embers to heat up the beans. Add cheese; hey there! A simple fire-side meal with minimal washing up!
One of my favourite things is chorizo. If you are staying in one of our cosy glamping pods with hot tubs, then you have it easy- there is a little kitchenette inside each one, plus a BBQ. So you can cook, chop and prep happily - but you still need to bring a gas stove.
All the flavours absorb into each other; it is to die for tasty.
It's one of those dishes that is warm, comforting, zingy and delicious. You can eat it any time of year, snuggled under a blanket in the middle of winter, binge-watching Love Island or in a camping chair with the heat of the sun beating, sunny gs on and a glass of bubbly in hand.
Smothered in creamy tomato sauce, it only takes 35 minutes to make.
It's easy, quick and full of give-me-more flavour.
What you need for a Camping-friendly Deluxe Chicken and Chorizo Pasta
Pasta
Penne pasta is what we use. Tube-shaped pasta with a ridged edge to hold in the delicious sauce! Penne is also easy to find, but if you're glamping, you may want to go all-out fancy and find some rigatoni or mostaccioli!
Chorizo
Garlic
Red and yellow pepper
Smokey paprika
Cheese topping of choice. This is really down to you, a classic rich cheddar cheese or a nutty and slightly salty parmesan.
And some cupboard staples: Pasta Red onion Chicken Creme fresh or thick double cream A teaspoon of sugar Stock & water
Prep Time 10 minutes Cook Time 25 minutes Total Time 35 minutes
Ingredients
300 g (10.5 oz) penne pasta (or similar see list)
1 tablespoon olive oil
170 g (6 oz) chorizo, half moon sliced
200 g (7 oz) chicken breast, diced
1 red onion, finely diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 red pepper, 1 yellow pepper diced
½ teaspoon dried Italian herbs
1 teaspoon smokey paprika
400 ml (2 cups) chicken stock
200 ml (1 cup) double cream
Handful of fresh basil, roughly chopped
30 g (¼ cup) grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese
Instructions: How to rustle up the-pot pasta method.
Add a tablespoon of oil to a heavy base pot. Fry the chorizo for 1-2 minutes and let the oil absorb the delicious flavours, whilst the chicken cooks for 4-5 minutes, add the onion and garlic. Cook for another few minutes until the chorizo is crispy and onions are soft.
Add in salt, pepper and smokey paprika, stir for a minute and pour in the passata and tea spoon of sugar, cook for 5 minutes to let all the flavours absorb.
Add in the stock and water.
Pour in the pasta and cook for 10 -15 minutes. Pasta should be cooked, and the sauce thick and silky.
Stir through the cream or cream fresh and heat through for a few minutes
Serve up into bowls, and add a sprinkle of cheese and fresh basil
Recipe tips
If the pasta cooks and the sauce feels too, add a little water. If it is too runny, cook it a little longer to evaporate some of the water.
Add salt and pepper to taste!
Enjoy! Tuck in and let us know what you think, or better yet, save me some when you are cooking up a storm camping here at Hill Farm.
